Honeymooners, lovers, winos.
Going for a soul-search in a Vineyard, wine glass in one hand, sketch book in another. Waking up to the sweet sounds of birds welcoming you into their garden of fruits.
Best Visiting Months
Many great times of the year to visit the Cape Vineyards. In March and April, their autumn is vibrant. Peak season is January through to May.
The Fransvliet is located on an olive/fig/grape farm just outside of wine-town Franschhoek. Along with the town of Stellenbosch, these Cape-grape capitals are lush green valleys beneath misty mountains. Fransvliet Guest House has exactly captured this experience. Your bedroom door opens to a veranda of wild ferns and manicured vineyards. A glint of lavender or fushcia flora will catch your eye. Unwind by an intimate pool in this gorgeous setting, enjoy a cold minty drink, and at night when it cools, a cozy hot-water bottle will be waiting in your bed. It's the little things.
Besides venturing through the gorgeous country-side near the hotel and dabbling in the many wine flavours, there are a few spots to check out. For an educational outing, the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens situated a bit further away is called "The most beautiful garden in Africa". Head to La Verdure, a working fruit farm where you can fish for trout, bass and tilapia. Or, you might want to experience a wine tasting on horseback (tricky but lovely sounding). You may also go hiking or strolling through the Mont Rochelle nature reserve.
This hotel breakfast has rave reviews. What appears to be just scrambled eggs is described to have a "perfect & unique flavour." Outside the hotel, journey to other vineyards for dinners. Next door is the delectable restaurant La Maison. Relax from the day in their crisp modern dining room, and sip on their delicious looking wines in the Wine Tasting Room & Deli.
Rent a car. Flip a coin for who's going to be designated driver on this wild wine-tasting journey.
