WHY STAY

Explora's Uyuni Salt Flat Lodge is situated on the border of the Uyuni salt flat, the largest and highest salt flat on Earth. Nestled on the slopes of the Tunupa volcano, named after the Andean god of lightning, this lodge offers travelers a unique perspective to fully comprehend the vastness of the Uyuni salt flat and the captivating scenery of the Altiplano plateau.

Designed for tranquility and connection with nature, the lodge accommodations provide an ideal setting to unwind after each day's exploration. What sets them apart is architectural ingenuity, courtesy of Chilean architect Max Núñez. These structures are intentionally light, compact, and low in height, allowing them to harmonize with their surroundings and minimize their impact on the pristine landscapes. Notably, they have been crafted in a 100% prefabricated and modular manner, offering the unique advantage of reversibility, ensuring they can be easily disassembled and relocated for future use in other breathtaking settings. The lodges are constructed from distinct modules that house bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms, and toilets, each assembled to create various configurations, adaptable to the specific demands of the locale.

Explora focuses on sustainable and responsible tourism, operating in harmony with its environment and supporting local communities. From the moment you arrive, you're greeted by unparalleled hospitality and a commitment to preserving the unique beauty of this remote corner of Bolivia. Whether it's the lodge's thoughtful architecture, exquisite cuisine, or its dedication to fostering a deeper connection with the natural world, Explora ensures an unforgettable adventure through one of the Earth's most extraordinary landscapes.

WHY WANDER

Uyuni Salt Flat Lodge is a gateway to untamed wilderness. Adventure seekers will find an array of explorations to choose from, ranging from treks to stargazing sessions in one of the world's clearest skies. Expert guides lead guests through the spellbinding landscapes, providing insights into the region's natural history, culture, and unique ecosystems.

You are here for Salar de Uyuni -  the largest salt flat in the world, covering an area of 12,000 square km, visible from space. Created by a prehistoric lake going dry, Salar de Uyuni is a desertlike landscape of salt, rock formations and islands. Discover this other-worldly natural wonder on foot or mountain bikes. Ascend the multicolored Tunupa volcano to an elevation of 17,822 feet above sea level or visit the Salinas and learn how the locals collect the salt. Alternatively, a less extreme but equally captivating option involves circling the volcano from below, exploring the nearby villages, wetlands, and archaeological sites that enrich the area. This extraordinary journey promises not only a profound connection with the natural world but also a commitment to preserving it for future generations.

Other Bolivian landmarks not to be missed are Árbol de Piedra ("stone tree") in the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve; Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon), a salt lake in the Sur Lípez Province, where you will also come across flamingoes; Laguna Celeste, another famous Bolivian lake and last but not least the Salvador Dalí Desert (Valle de Dalí), where landscapes resemble the artist's signature paintings.
