WHY STAY
Furnas Lake Villas is a boutique retreat in São Miguel, the biggest island in the Portuguese Azores archipelago, surrounded by gardens, mountains, and forests in a volcanic basin that is Furnas.
The 13 modern villas are built with local Japanese cedar wood, and sit on low concrete pillars over a man-made pond. The minimal Scandinavian design is complimented with neutral colours, floor-to-ceiling windows, a self-catering kitchen, and a fireplace. Stay in one of four Oak Studios or one of eight Japanese Villas, covered with locally grown wood called ‘cryptomeria’ (meaning ´hidden parts´). Alternatively, choose the Chestnut House - a traditional house with a large private porch.
Furnas Lake Villas are the perfect base to start and end your Azores adventure. Enjoy the property’s many hiking trails, the lake, fruit gardens, and the swimming pool. Fall asleep to complete silence.
WHY WANDER
São Miguel is a landscape of volcanoes, crater lakes, and rich marine life. Hike to Vista do Rei or Miradouro da Boca do Inferno for sweeping views of the island. Visit the twin crater lakes of Sete Cidades, one green and one blue. Explore Rasa and Santiago lagoons or wander inside dormant volcanic craters
The island invites water adventures. Kayak across lakes, bike along volcanic roads, or swim in natural hot springs like Ponta da Ferraria. Between April and June, whale watching offers unforgettable encounters with the Atlantic. For waterfalls, hike Ribeira dos Caldeirões or relax on the sandy beaches of Vila Franca Islet.
Every adventure on São Miguel brings you closer to the wild pulse of the Azores. Trails lead through lush forests, past fumaroles and geothermal springs, and along rocky coastlines, always with the sound of water and wind in the background
INDULGE IN
Taste Cozido das Furnas, a traditional meat and vegetable stew slow-cooked in the ground by volcanic heat. Enjoy fresh local produce, seafood, and pastries that reflect the flavors of the island
GETTING THERE
Fly into João Paulo II Airport in Ponta Delgada. Pink House Azores is a 35-minute drive from the airport. Rent a car to fully explore São Miguel at your own pace
Wild Initiatives
The property is built with a focus on local materials and craftsmanship. Gardens, orchards, and pond landscapes encourage biodiversity and a connection to place. Every detail reflects respect for São Miguel’s environment and culture
